Fun Fact: Jordan remain in the cusp of qualifying for their first FIFA World Cup

Jordan have blossomed into formidable opponents since the arrival of head coach Hussein Ammouta, with the Moroccan leading his side to a historic AFC Asian Cup final appearance in Qatar earlier this year.

The Al Nashama continued their run in the second round of the AFC Asian Qualifiers where they marched into the third round after defeating Tajikistan 3-0 to book their berth with a game to spare before producing a fighting performance to defeat Saudi Arabia 2-1 to top their group.

It is only the second time that Jordan have advanced to the third round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, having last done so in the 2014 edition where they went on to suffer heartbreak against Uruguay in the Inter-Continental playoff.

Their last two attempts were unfruitful, with Jordan exiting in the second round of the 2018 qualification after defeats against Kyrgyz Republic and Australia, as they did for the Qatar 2022 edition.

Ammouta has brought in positive changes, opting for a more attacking and possession-based game. His influence on the team has led to their success, with his side’s ability to play different styles evident in their 2-1 comeback win against Saudi Arabia.
