No room for error
From the 45 teams taking part in the qualifiers, only the 10 group winners and five best second-placed teams will qualify for the Finals alongside the host nation.
Title holders
Uzbekistan are the defending champions after they claimed the nation’s first AFC U20 Asian Cup title with a 1-0 win over Iraq in the 2023 final, thanks to a second-half Umarali Rakhmonaliev penalty in front of a sold-out crowd at Bunyodkor Stadium. The Central Asian team capped an impressive campaign with Abbosbek Fayzullaev winning the Most Valuable Player award and Otabek Boymurodov named Best Goalkeeper.
Pedigree
No team has enjoyed more success in the competition than Korea Republic, boasting 12 titles and 27 top-four finishes. Myanmar have been champions seven times, Iraq five times, Islamic Republic of Iran four times with DPR Korea and Saudi Arabia winning three times respectively.
Debutants
Nine teams – Maldives, Mongolia, Northern Mariana Islands, Palestine, Turkmenistan, Timor-Leste, Macau, Guam and Bhutan – will be aiming to make the Finals for the first time.
Global stage
The top four teams will qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025.
