HSINCHU COUNTY, Taiwan (AP) _ Silicon Motion Technology Corp. (SIMO) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $34.4 million.

The Hsinchu County, Taiwan-based company said it had profit of 98 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.11 per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 94 cents per share.

The chip company posted revenue of $182.4 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in July, Silicon Motion said it expects revenue in the range of $192 million to $201 million.

The company expects full-year revenue in the range of $782 million to $836 million.

Silicon Motion shares have climbed 40% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 59% in the last 12 months.
