RARITAN, N.J. (AP) _ Ortho Clinical Diagnostics Holdings PLC (OCDX) on Wednesday reported a loss of $39.1 million in its first quarter.

The Raritan, New Jersey-based company said it had a loss of 19 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted to extinguish debt and for amortization costs, were 26 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 19 cents per share.

The provider of in vitro diagnostics services posted revenue of $506.8 million in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $478.1 million.

Ortho Clinical expects full-year earnings in the range of 64 cents to 69 cents per share, with revenue in the range of $1.93 billion to $1.96 billion.
