MALVERN, Pa. (AP) _ Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (VSH) on Tuesday reported first-quarter profit of $71.4 million.

The Malvern, Pennsylvania-based company said it had profit of 49 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax gains, were 46 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 45 cents per share.

The chipmaker posted revenue of $764.6 million in the period.

For the current quarter ending in July, Vishay said it expects revenue in the range of $790 million to $830 million.

Vishay shares have increased 16% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 51% in the last 12 months.
