TORONTO (AP) _ Thomson Reuters Corp. (TRI) on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $5.04 billion.

The Toronto-based company said it had net income of $10.13 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains and to account for discontinued operations, were 58 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 40 cents per share.

The news and financial information company posted revenue of $1.58 billion in the period.

Thomson Reuters shares have climbed 14% since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased 35% in the last 12 months.
