DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ CF Industries Holdings Inc. (CF) on Wednesday reported first-quarter earnings of $151 million.

The Deerfield, Illinois-based company said it had net income of 70 cents per share.

The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 57 cents per share.

The fertilizer maker posted revenue of $1.05 billion in the period, falling short of Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.1 billion.

CF shares have climbed 29% since the beginning of the year, while the S&P’s 500 index has climbed 11%. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $50.08, a climb of 83% in the last 12 months.
