Farzaneh Sadegh, Minister of Roads and Urban Development, outlined the objectives of her visit to Kazakhstan in an interview with the ministry's news agency. "This trip was made to follow up on the agreements and understandings reached during the President's visit," she said.
She noted that the most critical factor influencing the growth of trade between the two countries is the development of transit and transportation, as well as improving the movement of goods between Iran and Kazakhstan, which serves as a bridge between East and West. This issue was on the agenda of official talks with Kazakhstan's economic and transportation officials.
Focus on Resolving Transit Issues and Expanding Rail and Road Transport
Sadegh emphasized that during the visit, she held meetings with Kazakhstan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Minister of Trade and Integration, and Minister of Transport. "In all these meetings, enhancing transit levels and resolving transit-related issues, including rail and road freight transport, were emphasized," she stated.
The Minister explained that the primary goal of these negotiations was to facilitate transportation flows and increase the efficiency of transit routes between the two countries.
Proposals for New Transit Corridors
She further noted that during talks with Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport, several proposals were put forward. These included leveraging China as a source of cargo, transferring goods from China to Kazakhstan and then to Iran, using Iran as a gateway to Europe via Turkey and the South Caucasus countries, and providing Kazakhstan with access to open waters through the port of Chabahar.
