PANAMA CITY (AP) _ Copa Holdings SA (CPA) on Wednesday reported a first-quarter loss of $110.7 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Panama City-based company said it had a loss of $2.60 per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $2.23 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of $2.25 per share.
The holding company for Panama’s national airline posted revenue of $185.7 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $188.9 million.
Copa Holdings shares have climbed slightly more than 6% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $82.07, an increase of 98% in the last 12 months.
