WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) _ Central Garden & Pet Co. (CENT) on Wednesday reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $73 million.
The Walnut Creek, California-based company said it had net income of $1.32 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.08 per share.
The maker of products for the pet supply and lawn and garden markets posted revenue of $935.3 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $874.8 million.
Central Garden expects full-year earnings to be $2.25 per share.
Central Garden shares have increased 50% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $57.84, an increase of 72% in the last 12 months.
