CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) _ Astec Industries Inc. (ASTE) on Wednesday reported first-quarter profit of $8.7 million.

On a per-share basis, the Chattanooga, Tennessee-based company said it had profit of 38 cents. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs, were 41 cents per share.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 86 cents per share.

The maker of equipment for building, paving and mining posted revenue of $284.4 million in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $314.9 million.

Astec Industries shares have increased 33% since the beginning of the year. The stock has more than doubled in the last 12 months.
