TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) _ Chunghwa Telecom Co. (CHT) on Tuesday reported first-quarter earnings of $314 million.

The Taipei, Taiwan-based company said it had net income of 40 cents per share.

The telecommunications company posted revenue of $1.78 billion in the period.

Chunghwa shares have risen nearly 6% since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 12% in the last 12 months.
