SASKATOON, Saskatchewan (AP) _ Nutrien Ltd. (NTR) on Monday reported first-quarter net income of $127 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based company said it had net income of 22 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were 29 cents per share.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 9 cents per share.
The producer of potash and other fertilizers posted revenue of $4.66 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.64 billion.
Nutrien expects full-year earnings in the range of $2.55 to $3.25 per share.
Nutrien shares have increased 16% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $55.96, an increase of 61% in the last 12 months.
