OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Green Plains Renewable Energy Inc. (GPRE) on Monday reported a loss of $6.5 million in its first quarter.

The Omaha, Nebraska-based company said it had a loss of 17 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 48 cents per share.

The ethanol production, marketing and commodities company posted revenue of $553.6 million in the period.

Green Plains shares have more than doubled since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased fivefold in the last 12 months.
